This month the drama continues to run amok in the Garden State as “The Real Housewives of New Jersey” (“RHONJ”) premiers Wednesday, October 4th on Bravo. New Jersey Senator in Asbury Park to Keep Transfolk in Military

In the wake of President Trump’s announcement that he would ban transgender Americans from serving in the military, today U.S. Senator Cory Booker was joined by LGBT advocates at Garden State Equality’s office in Asbury Park to discuss legislative efforts to protect transgender service members.

Hungry in Asbury Park?

Let me introduce you to some of my favorite restaurants and watering holes in Asbury Park. When I moved to Asbury Park in 2001, the town was run-down, the boardwalk was nonexistent and reminiscent of the drug-ridden Coney Island beach in Brooklyn of yesteryear. Today it boasts a plethora of delicious, Zagat-rated restaurants, beautiful condos, great watering holes, and big supporters of the Asbury Park LGBTQ community.

Trans Right are Equal Rights

Let me start this article by saying that I’m just a drag queen over a certain age who has been performing for half that age. I’ve never felt “different” or felt as if I were “trapped in another body.” I’m just a man with a passion for the performing arts, comedy, and drag. Throughout my life as a gay man, I’ve had many friends that felt differently. They decided to come out as trans men and women. I respect that. This is America, the great land of opportunities. The land of living your own truths and living freely.

Below is the official press release.

A New Pride Flag?

Before I begin to talk about the “new Pride flag,” I must state that this is my opinion and not that of this publication or of my community in Asbury Park as a whole. There’s been a lot of buzz recently about the “new Pride flag,” that includes two added colors, in brown and black, to represent black and people of color.

Our Foot Print

As we embark on the month of June, we realize two things, one, wow! Summer is here and two, it’s Gay Pride month. As I write this column, and as I prepare to celebrate gay Pride with my friends and chosen family here in Asbury Park, I can’t help but think about how it all began. I think of how the millennials and the younger children will never understand how hard our pioneers had it before the pomp and circumstance of Gay Pride parades. With the political climate being what it is now and with an administration that doesn’t acknowledge […]

Paint the Town Pink!

On Friday, May 5th, Asbury Park came together as a community, as they have for the past five years for the 5th annual “Pink Prom” to raise funds to another amazing cause. The event took place in one of my favorite venues in Asbury Park, Hotel Tides. This is the fifth year of this spectacular event that has amassed thousands of dollars to help local LGBTQ organizations, and it has turned into one of New Jersey’s most successful fundraisers. In the last five years the Pink Prom has benefited Pride Network, Pride Center of New Jersey, Project Real, Gender Spectrum […]
