Last summer, GLCCB hired several young people from the Baltimore YouthWorks program. As a part of their employment, they were tasked with creating a project for the benefit of the LGBTQ community in Baltimore. They invented the Helping Hands Clothing Closet, a resource for LGBTQ homeless individuals or anyone in need to receive free clothing and food on the last Monday of each month. The founding youth decided to dedicate and name the closet after Shawnna Alexander, Baltimore’s own legendary activist and performer. On February 29th, 2016, Shawnna was honored with the dedication and a plaque posted outside of the closet. Clothing and food donations are accepted on an ongoing basis. Contact Kevin Holt at kholt@glccb.org or 410-777-8145 x305 for more information! Our next open closet event will be Monday, March 28th, 1 to 6 p.m. Please share with those in need.
