GLSEN to Protest Betsy DeVos
The Trump administration’s Secretary of Education, Betsy DeVos, main education experience is in the political and financial support for charter schools, and as an owner of a firm that pursues people in default on their student loans. Some have praised her rollback of Obama-era regulations that stripped young men accused of unwanted sex of any presumption of innocence in university tribunals. Others have criticized her for the same. On the LGBT front, DeVos rescinded directives that recommended students have access to facilities based on their asserted gender identities.
LGBT Boutique Comes to Annapolis
Will a LGBT-focused boutique that wears its sexuality on its sleeve thrive in an upmarket shopping center in Annapolis? Time will tell, as Same Gender Love only opened for business on December 2nd.
Supporting the Homeless for the Holidays
Several upcoming events support those experiencing homelessness this holiday season. Won’t you come out and help? Drag Me to X-mas is set for December 10th from 9 pm to 1 am at Ziascoz Bar and Lounge (1313 East Pratt Street, Baltimore). It’s a fundraiser for B & Dee’s Baltimore Love, a local LGBT-run group supporting the homeless. Tickets are $5. PA High Court OKs Ouster of Lesbian Judge
Harrisburg – In a five-to-one decision issued November 22nd, the Pennsylvania Supreme Court upheld a lower court’s ruling that permanently bars Dawn A. Segal from holding judicial office. Segal, an open lesbian, served as a municipal-court judge in Philadelphia for about six years until she was suspended without pay last year due to improper conversations with another judge. The majority opinion states that Segal’s actions were “an affront to the administration of justice and diminish confidence in the judiciary at large.” The sole dissenter recommended that the case be remanded to the Court of Judicial Discipline for further review to […]
2017 World AIDS Day Events
30th annual commemoration set for December 1st Friday, December 1st will mark the 30th annual international observance of World AIDS Day. This year’s international theme is “Increasing Impact through Transparency, Accountability, and Partnerships.” Several events will take place throughout the community to honor those living with HIV, and to remember those who have lost their lives while living with HIV/AIDS.
12 Days of Christmas: Naughty, Nice, and Nasty
Long a Baltimore institution, Hooker and Boys will present their 19th annual “12 Days of Christmas” charity fundraiser, where performers from around the region will get “naughty, nice, and nasty” December 9th, from noon to 6 pm at the Maritime Conference Center (692 Maritime Boulevard, Linthicum Heights). Doors open at noon and the show starts at 2.
Winter Choral Concerts
If the holidays aren’t a good time to be merry and gay, then when’s better? The Baltimore Men’s Chorus (BMC) and the New Wave Singers of Baltimore (NWSB) will be performing at several events and concerts during December.

On December 1st, Spotlighters Theatre (817 St. Paul Street, Baltimore) will host Jason Dottley’s “Life on the Gay List 2–All the Sordid Details,” from 6 to 9PM.
