From fighting AIDS with ACT UP in New York and helping found Lesbian Avengers– Anne-christine d’Adesky’s new memoir casts fresh light on epic battles Anne-christine d’Adesky got arrested, accidentally, long before it happened on purpose during AIDS protests. The Pulitzer Prize-nominated journalist was covering civil disobedience at a nuclear facility in 1982 when she was approached by a suspicious policeman. Despite assuring him that she was covering the demonstration for Ms. magazine, the officer arrested her anyway.

How the Legendary Larry Kramer Chance Made His Way Back to GMHC
Kelsey Louie and I are standing outside the door of Larry Kramer’s apartment in New York City. Kelsey has already tried the bell and then, after a time, knocks twice. I have the sensation, one I have rarely experienced, of my heart pounding in my ears.
A Second Chance at Death
We all know how this ends. Despite the avalanche of articles on aging with HIV or advice about how to avoid long-term side effects or even news of progress toward a cure, nothing will change the inevitable. None of us will get out of this alive.

Influenza Season & Nurses
From September to December each year, nurses give more shots than all other times of the year put together, and we absolutely love it. There’s just something very satisfying about being the agent of prevention and keeping people safe from influenza because the flu is serious stuff. Over the past ten years an average of 32,743 deaths have occurred annually in the United States due to influenza. We nurses think that’s not something to sneeze at (pun definitely intended), at least when a simple vaccine can prevent the flu.

In the U.S. stroke drops to the 5th leading cause of death, but heart disease remains the leading cause of death here for both men and women.

Truvada, which is part of a cocktail regimen for people with HIV has demonstrated as much as a 90% effective rate in reducing the risk of HIV transmission when it is taken […]
