Dear Friends,
We here at The Frederick Center want to thank you for your steady support and your contribution to the important progress that has taken place over the past year.

On the national front, 2015 saw the hard work and high hopes of tens of thousands of individuals and organizations pay off when the United States Supreme Court declared Marriage Equality the law of the land. Locally 2015 offered progress that was out of the spotlight but just as equal importance, affecting the day-to-day lives of LGBTQ individuals and our community at large.

Some of the highlights of what we’ve been doing this past year:

  • Sponsoring our Youth Group, which now serves approximately 200 adolescents and young adults. Weekly meetings typically include 30 young people who meet in a sympathetic environment for support, education, and skill-sharing, supported twice each month by a contracted licensed counselor. The transgender/gender non-conforming group also continues to grow.

  • Producing the fourth annual Frederick Pride at Carroll Creek Park that was attended by thousands of individuals as well as supporting businesses despite torrential rain

  • Distribution of approximately 100 HIV Home test kits ,free of charge, at a variety of events and venues

  • Outreach partnerships with the Frederick County Department of Health, Free State Legal, the Frederick Film Festival; “LGBTQ 101” presentations to organizations and government agencies, including Frederick County Public Schools; liaisons with the Frederick County Equity Partnership and many other organizations, all of which put a human face on the local LGBTQ community

But, these are just the highlights, which alone represent hundreds of hours of time contributed by hundreds of local volunteers. And, frankly, we could have done more. Now more than ever, there’s a growing receptivity to LGBTQ issues. Now is the time to build a firm foundation for a solid future.

To do so, we need to raise $64,000 to offset the costs of our programs, brochures, meeting space, advertising, and speakers’ fees. We’re a 501(c)(3), and except for an intern, there is no paid staff, your funds go directly into our local programming, which you help to make possible with every dollar you give.

To lend your financial support you can go to thefrederickcenter.org or facebook.com/TheFrederickCenter.  In doing so you will help to make central Maryland a better place to live for everyone in the LGBTQ community.

Thank you for your support and commitment!
