On Thursday, July 13th Megan (DeJarlais) Martin, International Ms Leather 1998 and Ms. Baltimore Eagle 1993, donated her IMsL title vest to the Carter Johnson Leather Library and Collection (Mid-Atlantic Annex) for long-term loan to the Baltimore Eagle’s trophy case. More than 60 leatherfolk from FIST, COMMAND, Mid-Atlantic girls of Leather, Onyx, and many other local groups “showed up and showed out” to welcome her back to Baltimore and celebrate all of the contributions she has made to our community through the years. Two of Megan’s IMsL sisters, Jessi Ahart (IMsL 2005 / Ms Baltimore Eagle 2005) and Lascivious Jane (IMsL 2016) – were also in attendance, along with her Ms. Baltimore Eagle predecessor, Glenda Rider– Ms. Baltimore Eagle 1992.

Although leading a less-public life now, Megan has been far from “retired.” She stepped aside after her year as IMsL and promptly headed backstage, where she became part of the production team until 2006.

In 2006, Megan traded heels & leather for skates and kneepads, joining Omaha’s brand-new roller derby team. As one of the oldest skaters, she adopted the moniker of “Midlife Crashes” and spent eight years dodging hits, scoring points, and coaching new recruits. She embraced her return to an athlete’s life fully, becoming a certified personal trainer in late 2013.

In 2014 Megan hung up her skates and began strength training full-time, as well as training others. She currently holds the Nebraska state records in her age and weight group within USA Powerlifting.

Megan has worked for Oriental Trading Company for 18 years, and has been married to husband Chris for seven years. She occasionally finds time between work, training, and a new passion for gardening and cooking to attend leather functions. She was delighted to have the opportunity to visit the gorgeous new Baltimore Eagle and to reconnect with old friends.

In addition to Megan’s IMsL vest, the new display case at the Baltimore Eagle holds many treasures from area titleholders, clubs and special occasions – make sure you check it out the next time you stop by for a drink or a bite to eat from their restaurant.
