So what’s a rodeo school? A rodeo school is a play-day event that’s dedicated to learning how to perform the events in a gay rodeo. At a gay rodeo, you’ll find traditional rodeo events such as barrel racing, bull riding, and calf roping. Gay rodeos also add in some fun crowd-pleasing camp events that even those who don’t know how to ride a horse or have never been around livestock can do. The three added camp events that you’ll find at a gay rodeo are goat dressing (a team relay race to put underwear on a goat), steer decorating (a team event to get a 400- to 500-pound steer under control and tie a ribbon around his tail), and the wild drag race (a three-person team event to get a 400- to 500-pound steer under control and get a drag queen up on his back and across the finish line). All three of these events will be offered at the rodeo school along with barrel racing, pole bending, flag race, and chute dogging. For those who want to try their hand at any of the speed events (barrel racing, pole bending, and flag race), horses will be available for you to try with.
Does all this sound like fun? The Keystone state gay rodeo association will be holding its first of two rodeo schools and trail ride weekend July 20th and 21st at Spring Valley County Park (9777 Crest Road, Glen Rock, Pennsylvania).
On Saturday July 20th, the rodeo school will start at 11:30 am. Cost for the event is $15 per event or $60 to try them all. Contestants will get three tries at each event to perfect their skill. On Sunday, July 21st, there will be a trail ride through the park. The trail ride is $15 per person for KSGRA members and $20 for non-members. For those without a mount, horses are available for rent at $20 per. For those who want to come for both days, camping is available for free, and for those who come just to watch the fun admission is free, as well. Food will be available for purchase! Come and spend a fun weekend with KSGRA and the critters.
Be sure to mark your calendar and save the date for our third annual Keystone State Gay Rodeo, October 12th, 2019 which is going to be held in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania.
