Baltimore Theatre Shines

Ladies and gentlemen, look upon this man sitting on his meager pallet of straw, this unfortunate man who, for the amusement of all of you here, has foregone physical nourishment for 40 days … this Hunger Artist, who without dispute the greatest practioner of his craft the world over has sat in this very cage in this mighty hall and has not taken even the slightest morsel of sustenance. So, states the impresario of A Hunger Artist, and if one needed any more evidence that the Baltimore theatre scene is vibrant and exploding, there was Baltimore Theatre Project’s limited performance […]

What a Difference a Year Makes

A year ago this week, I set out with a band of fierce and determined woman, gay and straight, to tackle the steep hills of Pittsburgh and canvas for Hillary Clinton for president. We were tireless and optimistic, even as the yards stretched out before us outside in the Pittsburgh suburbs blanketed with Trump-Pence signs and random doors (of identified democratic-leaning voters) slammed in our faces. Two Lesbians on a Tram, and Australia’s Historic Vote

Same-sex marriage Down Under in a tense contest In Australia this week, it will not be business as usual for commuters on the tram. For a group of elderly lesbians with a sparkle in their eyes and attitude to boot, it’s time to reclaim the train, and reclaim their history. To commemorate a historic act of lesbophobia which occurred there in 1977, they will board and they will hold hands. And they will be proud. Please follow and like us:

Ending Ignorance, One Circle at a Time

“Circles of Voices” Airs Diverse Opinions Once a month on an early Saturday evening, a small but powerful vocal transformation is taking shape in Baltimore. At a time when the players on the national scene are brazenly sowing division and putting all minority communities in danger and our local Baltimore streets are rife with a record number of homicides, a new space is quietly being born. A now and future safe space. Its birth pangs are not always pretty, as it entails connecting people who do not occupy the same space in any way in the city. This connection and […]

Stand Up for Our Humanity

When the Ravens announced that they are considering signing Colin Kaepernick to the team, the floodgates opened in Baltimore. It is not simply a matter of football. It is loaded, political, and rife with meaning. It is news underlying actions wielding the jagged edge of a knife, it is coming down on one side or the other, it is fierce, defiant, divisive and ugly – though for many it holds the possibility of healing, reconciliation, and a ray of hope. It is a symbol and symptom of life in Donald Trump’s America. Please follow and like us:

Actions or Words?

“Ask yourself who is really the friend of women and the LGBT community, Donald Trump with actions or Hillary Clinton with her words? I will tell you who the better friend is, and someday I believe that will be proven out, big-league.” – Donald Trump, June 2016 What a difference 13 shocking and hapless months can make. Thirteen months ago, Donald Trump was on the campaign trail touting himself as a friend to the LGBTQ community, pledging to “fight for you” more bigly than Hillary Rodham Clinton ever could. Pledging to fight against those who would threaten our freedom and […]

Barb’s Online Lesbian Dating Adventure

Time to check in with you on my online dating adventures! Well, I’ve been a paid member of a particular mainstream (vs. LGBT or lesbian-only) online dating site for almost six months now and I’m getting ready to cut bait with them when the subscription ends later this month. I like this site’s interface but am curious to see what else is out there. Please follow and like us:
