Hungry in Asbury Park?

Let me introduce you to some of my favorite restaurants and watering holes in Asbury Park. When I moved to Asbury Park in 2001, the town was run-down, the boardwalk was nonexistent and reminiscent of the drug-ridden Coney Island beach in Brooklyn of yesteryear. Today it boasts a plethora of delicious, Zagat-rated restaurants, beautiful condos, great watering holes, and big supporters of the Asbury Park LGBTQ community. Please follow and like us:

‘Babashook’ by Rainier Guerra

Just when you thought Pissi Myles had done it all, she comes back and surprises us with a fantastic new video on iTunes – “Babashook,” based on the 2014 Australian psychological horror film “The Babadook.” Just released last Friday morning it has already found its way to the tops of the Billboard.com charts. Below is the official press release. Please follow and like us:

A New Pride Flag?

Before I begin to talk about the “new Pride flag,” I must state that this is my opinion and not that of this publication or of my community in Asbury Park as a whole. There’s been a lot of buzz recently about the “new Pride flag,” that includes two added colors, in brown and black, to represent black and people of color. Please follow and like us:

Our Foot Print

As we embark on the month of June, we realize two things, one, wow! Summer is here and two, it’s Gay Pride month. As I write this column, and as I prepare to celebrate gay Pride with my friends and chosen family here in Asbury Park, I can’t help but think about how it all began. I think of how the millennials and the younger children will never understand how hard our pioneers had it before the pomp and circumstance of Gay Pride parades. With the political climate being what it is now and with an administration that doesn’t acknowledge […]

Paint the Town Pink!

On Friday, May 5th, Asbury Park came together as a community, as they have for the past five years for the 5th annual “Pink Prom” to raise funds to another amazing cause. The event took place in one of my favorite venues in Asbury Park, Hotel Tides. This is the fifth year of this spectacular event that has amassed thousands of dollars to help local LGBTQ organizations, and it has turned into one of New Jersey’s most successful fundraisers. In the last five years the Pink Prom has benefited Pride Network, Pride Center of New Jersey, Project Real, Gender Spectrum […]

Mid-Atlantic Drummer and Other Happenings

On the weekend of March 31st through April 2nd, “No Fuckin’ Foolin’ Productions” hosted the second Annual Mid-Atlantic Drummer, Drummer Boy, and Drummer Bootblack contests at Paradise here in Asbury Park. I had the honor of being asked to be one of the judges for Mid-Atlantic Drummer and Mid-Atlantic Drummer Boy, alongside Simon Ruchti (whom I had the pleasure of stalking all weekend), Lisa Clark (Ms. New Jersey Leather 2011), and legendary disco icon, Felipe Rose, the Native American Indian of the Village People. This contest is a feeder contest for Drummer North America and welcomes any type of kink […]

Aunt ‘Phylis’ Comes to Town

Don’t let any short-arm inspection catch you short Summer will be here before you know it! Asbury Park will once again be bustling with visitors from all over the Northeast, gay and straight alike. There will be scantily clad men on the beach, the Paradise pool, and on the boardwalk. The Visiting Nurse Association will have its mobile testing unit everywhere around town providing free rapid HIV and syphilis tests. Thanks to the mobile unit and the Prevention Resource Network’s “Superhero” campaign, more and more gay men in town know their HIV status. Please follow and like us:
