When I finish a column, I’m usually already thinking about what the next one will be about. When I have lots of events planned, it is easy. This column was going to be about Twisting Culture’s Northeast Person of Leather 2020 weekend planned for March 20th – March 22nd at the Baltimore Playhouse. Last year for the inaugural event producer Jack Jackman was kind enough to reach out to me personally to make sure I was planning to be there. Unfortunately, last year I had already made plans to be in Provincetown, Massachusetts for the Bay State Marauders’ 16th anniversary. I did have the pleasure of interviewing Northeast Person of Leather 2019 S’ango Onyx when I returned. This year when Jack reached out again, I was excited that I could be there this time for the full event. Who could have planned for what would happened? The good news is that Northeast Person of Leather 2020 is still on my calendar. This weekend of classes, shows, play parties and a contest has been rescheduled for October 16th – 18th. Put this on your schedule and make plans to join me at this fun event.
I was also looking forward to toasting the 45th anniversary of the Excelsior MC leather club of New York during Fire Island Leather Weekend May 15th – 17th. My hotel room was booked, and my run packs were purchased. This event has been cancelled. Excelsior MC is trying to get the two hotels to not enforce their penalties for cancelations. Run packs will be honored for May 2021. Also completely cancelled for 2020 is the popular Bears, Bikers, and Mayhem weekend that was scheduled for April 23rd – 27th in Gettysburg, Pennsylvania. This would have been the 10th year for BBM. The producers look forward to seeing everyone on April 29th – May 3rd, 2021.
Cleveland Leather Awareness Weekend (CLAW) is one of the biggest leather events of the year and is filled with lots of demos and instructional classes, cocktail parties, a big leather vendor mart, a formal leather dinner, and much more. It was scheduled for April 23rd – 26th. It has been postponed and will take place on November 19th – 22nd . Visit clawinfo.org for all the details.
Locally, I was really looking forward to the International Ms. Leather / International Ms. Bootblack send-off for our Mid-Atlantic titleholders that was scheduled for April 4th at the Clifton Pleasure Club. Velvet Storm and Foxxy are amazing and I was ready to wish them well at the IMsLBB Contest in San Jose, California over the weekend of April 16th – 20th. Unfortunately, the send-off fundraiser has been postponed as has IMsLBB 2020. Keep an eye on imslbb.org for details regarding rescheduling.
Likewise, International Mr. Leather and International Mr. Bootblack which brings the leather world to Chicago every Memorial Day Weekend has also been postponed. A new date has not yet been selected but producers promise that IML 2020 will be held at some point this year.
There is no telling when the world will return to normal. The 50th LA Pride Festival and Parade that was scheduled for June 12th – 14th has already been cancelled and hopefully will be rescheduled for some time later in the year. Please be safe. Stay healthy. You can still make plans to enjoy these great leather events. You just need to plan ahead … way ahead.
