The Single Carrot Theatre is working with Los Angeles-based playwright Joshua Conkel (of Netflix’s A Series of Unfortunate Events) to develop a new production of Peter Pan, a modern take on a childhood favorite that will explore contemporary conversations on gender, sexuality, and performative identity and embrace queer culture. Neverland will be transformed from a distant fantasy to a modern safe-haven for those who have been rejected and devalued, a stronghold against normalcy and a place where Peter and his Lost Boys can finally be themselves.
To help in the development of this production, the playwright and Single Carrot Theatre are hosting two story-sharing workshops that will help create and shape the production to reflect the stories that come from community members, allowing the community to be part of this unique opportunity.
Conkel will return in the spring for a workshop series when community members will be the first to hear a draft of this new work.
The first workshop will be held on October 19th from 1 to 4 pm at Chase Brexton Health Care (1111 North Charles Street, Baltimore). For more info, visit Participate in Creating a New Play: Peter Pan! Facebook event.
The second workshop will be held on October 22nd from 6:30 to 8 pm at SugarBaltimore (1001 West 36th Street, Baltimore). Refreshments will be provided. For more info, it’s Help create a Lgbtq+ adaptation of Peter Pan at Facebook.
Previews of the new show will take place on April 25th and 26th, 2018, and performances will take place from April 27th to May 20th.
