Lakota Music Project with the South Dakota Symphony Chamber Ensemble

October 21, 2019 @ 7:30 pm - 9:30 pm

$15 – $30

The Lakota Music Project is the flagship project of the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra’s community engagement programs. Using music from both Native and non-Native cultures, the project creates an environment of openness that treats the music of both cultures with dignity and respect. Enjoy this musical collaboration with musicians from the South Dakota Symphony Orchestra featuring Lakota singer Emmanuel Black Bear from the Oglala Lakota tribe and cedar flutist Bryan Akipa from the Sisseton Wahpeton Oyate tribe. The performance will include commissioned works by Native American composers from the SDSO’s music composition academies, Bryan Akipa, and Jerod ‘Impichchaachaaha’ Tate.

Post Concert Discussion: South Dakota Symphony Orchestra Music Director Gier Ronnie Theisz, Chris Eagle Hawk, Emmanuel Black Bear, and Bryan Akipa
