The entrancing magic of Disney on Ice returns to Baltimore’s Royal Farms Arena this October. Running from Wednesday, October 10th to Sunday, October 14th, Disney on Ice presents “Mickey’s Search Party,” a brand-new adventure filled with world-class skating, high-flying acrobatics, and of course, the most beloved of Disney characters. Ice skater Daniel Aggiano recently chatted with Baltimore OUTloud to discuss his role in Disney on Ice and what audiences will most enjoy from this new production.
“This is the brand-new show,” began Aggiano, “and in my opinion, the best Disney on Ice show we ever made. It brings people closer to the magic than ever before. There’s literally so much audience participation. The hosts of the show will sit next to different people in the audience and interact with them. The plot revolves around the Disney characters using Captain Hook’s treasure map in search of clues to find the beloved Tinker Bell. In order to do that, we’ll need help from everyone in the show.”
As part of the ensemble for the show, Aggiano gets to play many different roles throughout the performance, as well as perform in some of Disney’s most classic songs. “I do just about everything. I’ll be in the opening, in ‘Be Our Guest,’ in ‘Friend Like Me,’ and songs from Frozen. In many of our acts we have so many different things going on such as juggling, people on stilts and skaters doing amazingly cool tricks.”
Aggiano went on to explain that there are many aspects of his job that he really enjoys. “I tried having a regular nine-to-five life. I’ve been on and off the road so many times. I’ve been doing this type of work on and off since 2009. Every time I go back to a regular nine-to-five life I miss the aspects of being on the road and being in a different city. It’s also going to sound really cheesy, but I enjoy seeing the faces of the kids when I perform. Especially, when you make eye contact with them, and they come to watch and think that you’re just performing for them. They don’t even see the other people around them. You don’t get that type of rewarding feeling working in just an office.”
Think Disney equals “formulaic”? Aggiano says there’s a ton creativity that’s been poured into this project. “I’ve never been as excited to perform in an ice show like this one. I truly do believe that we have one of the best ice shows out there right now. The cast is super excited. So much artistry will be in this show that we have something for both the kids and the adults. You’ll have to see it!”
