Brother Help Thyself (BHT) invites you to join them on Saturday, February 2nd from 7 to 10 pm at Baltimore’s historic Belvedere Hotel (1 East Chase Street, Baltimore) as they celebrate 40 years of providing grants to 501(c)(3) non-profits who serve the LGBTQ / SGL and HIV communities in Washington, DC, and Baltimore. The theme for the event is “A Dressier Affair” and those attending are encouraged to dress to impress!
The event will commemorate the organizations history, and former board members, and longtime supporters will be welcomed back to present award checks for the 2018 grant cycle totaling over $75,000 to 32 organizations. They will also present five annual community service awards, along with two new non-grant awards of $2,500 each that will go to LGBTQ / SGL youth serving non-profits, as part of the new Billy McCoy Thompson Jr. Memorial Fund, begun this year in his honor by Billy’s sisters Jackie and Traci Thompson
“The culmination of our work each year brings us to this day when we gather our grantees, friends, and supporters to present not just checks, but to assemble everyone in one room to celebrate themselves individually and our greater community collectively,” said Andrew McCarty, president of BHT. “This year, that room I talked about is much more elegant than in years past, so that we can honor or history and look ahead to our future in a beautiful setting in the heart of Baltimore’s historic Mount Vernon gayborhood.”
BHT has awarded 1,098 grants totaling $3,170,119 since 1978 to 194 non-profits serving the LGBTQ / SGL and HIV communities in DC and Baltimore and points in between. For more information, visit Brotherhelpthyself.org.
