Dining OUT

Finger's Food, Fuhr the Love of Food

The Baltimore Eagle

Typically, on a Friday night, we would have dinner out before hitting the bar for a few drinks. However, now that the Eagle has opened its kitchen, we could dine AND drink all at once.  As most people that have been to the Eagle already know, there was a great deal of hype and anticipation for the food to roll out.  We had heard about the credentials of Master Chef Scholly, which include accomplishments, such as earning the 1996 German Master Chef of the Year, and of some of his clients of music royalty, i.e. Madonna, Springsteen, McCartney, Diamond, and Brooks. He even served the President Who Shall Not Be Named, before he became The President Who Shall Not Be Named.  Now it was time to finally try some of his offerings at the Eagle.

When Nick and I were invited to the Underground Kitchen launch in Baltimore earlier in the week, we had no idea what fun and adventure was in store. The Underground Kitchen is a secret supper club that hosts pop-up dinners in various locations. The idea originated in Richmond, Virginia, and later expanded into the Mid-Atlantic. On March 20th and 21st, the Underground Kitchen, the “ultra-luxe, super-secret, pop-up dining society featuring buzzed-about chefs, unconventional locations, and tickets that routinely sell out within minutes” came to Baltimore.

The Elephant
924 North Charles Street, Baltimore

Nick had always told me about his memories of The Brass Elephant. He was excited to see renovations heralding its reopening as The Elephant after more than five years of closure. We’d received a gift card to dine there for our wedding and were looking forward to the visit. The idea was to enjoy a nice, quiet dinner for two, and spend some quality time as a couple.

Nando’s Peri-Peri

Last time we had ventured over to the mall in Towson, we noticed a new restaurant coming in, Nando’s Peri-Peri. While it’s now been open quite a while, we hadn’t ventured inside until last week, mainly because on weekends it’s so busy. We were lucky last week and found a quiet time on a weekday evening. Nando’s plays in that space between a fast-food joint and a full table-service restaurant. Much like Pei Wei, ordering is done at the register and a server brings your meals when ready. For those unfamiliar, Nando’s serves South African cuisine, and is mostly known for chicken, with a other offerings as well.

Brew House no. 16
831 North Calvert Street, Baltimore
Brewhouseno16.com • 410-659-4084

As a pedestrian walking through historic Mount Vernon, it was exciting to see the restoration of the old fire station on the corner of Read and Calvert. It had stood abandoned for quite some time before the Hummel family decided to renovate and open the Brew House. Neighbors are excited to have a new dining establishment in the neighborhood. For one reason or another, we hadn’t been able to get over there for more than a beer since the grand opening, but we decided to meet some friends there for dinner last week.
