Supporting the Homeless for the Holidays

Several upcoming events support those experiencing homelessness this holiday season. Won’t you come out and help?

Drag Me to X-mas is set for December 10th from 9 pm to 1 am at Ziascoz Bar and Lounge (1313 East Pratt Street, Baltimore). It’s a fundraiser for B & Dee’s Baltimore Love, a local LGBT-run group supporting the homeless. Tickets are $5. If one hundred people commit to attending, B and Dee’s Baltimore Love founder Brian Dolbow will appear in drag! For more info, visit Bit.ly/2im4Qau.

Holiday Party for the Homeless – A holiday party for the homeless happens on December 16th, from 11 am to 5 pm, sponsored by the First Unitarian Church of Baltimore (with over 20 other supporting groups) in the church’s parish hall (514 North Charles Street, Baltimore). There’s a free community dinner, gifts for children and youth, winter clothing, live music, and more. It will be a safe and sober, family-friendly event, welcoming all. More info at Bit.ly/2iOMpix. Donate funds here: Gofundme.com/holiday-party-for-the-homeless-2017, or send checks to Alisia Moore, Treasurer, 4132 East Joppa Road, Suite 110-854, Nottingham, Maryland 21236. Lunch Patrol: Christmas Time in the City – On December 17th, join B & Dee’s Baltimore Love for their special holiday edition of Lunch Patrol.

They will distribute brown-bag lunches to area homeless, a staple of Lunch Patrol, and will also be offering an Italian dinner buffet for those in need. They will meet at 620 Fallsway in Baltimore. Donations and volunteers are needed. All are welcome. For info and signup details, stay tuned to Bit.ly/2ByNoqP.

Cookies and Cocoa for the Homeless – On December 24th, from 6 to 9 pm, volunteers are invited to meet at the intersection of Guilford Avenue and the 300 block of North Pleasant Street, under the Jones Falls Expressway, to distribute fresh-baked cookies and hot cocoa to homeless people living in downtown Baltimore.

They also hope to distribute care bags with bottled water, granola bars, a hat, socks, and gloves, to help those often forgotten with the gift of love and something to warm their bellies on a cold winter’s night.

Donations are being collected of the above, as well as fruit cups, Christmas cards, chips, and sodas. To make a donation or for more info, it’s Facebook.com/events/1956367667953104.
