In January 1977, 13 men got together in a small apartment on 2nd Street in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, to talk about forming a leather social club for folks in the area. Some in the group were familiar with other leather clubs that had been formed in the Mid-Atlantic region, such as Washington’s Centaur MC (founded in 1970), the Philadelphians MC (founded in 1974), and the ShipMates Club of Baltimore (also founded in 1974).
On Saturday, February 18th Mr. Woods Leather 2017 Todd Apple and Ms. Woods Leather 2017 Alyssa Durnien hosted “Ladies of Leather,” a drag show and silent auction at “The Nest” at the Baltimore Eagle to benefit the Lehigh Valley Renaissance Transgender Association and the Leather Heart Foundation. Afterwards COMMAND MC hosted the first of what will be monthly bar nights (on the third Saturday of each month) in the Baltimore Eagle’s “Code Bar.” It was a really fun night.
Nicholas Hollup was named Mr. Philadelphia Leather 2017 and Heather Raquel was sashed Ms. Philadelphia Leather 2017 on Saturday, February 11th in front of a packed house at the Bike Stop in downtown Philadelphia. Bull, a member of the Atlanta Panther Leather / Levi Club and a recent Philadelphia transplant, was first runner-up for Mr. Philadelphia Leather 2017, and Kitten, executive producer of Philadelphia Leather Pride night, was first runner-up for Ms. Philadelphia Leather 2017. Also competing for Mr. Philadelphia Leather 2017 were Christopher Stratton, who was first runner-up to Mr. Mayhem Leather 2016, and Erich a proud military veteran.
Mr. Pittsburgh Leather Fetish 2017 Martel Brown, Jr., was awarded the title of Mr. Mid-Atlantic Leather 2017 during the annual Mid-Atlantic Leather Weekend (MAL) produced by the Centaur MC and held again this year at the Hyatt Regency Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C. Mr. Connecticut Leather 2017 “Scooby” was selected first runner-up and Scott Blumstein, who was selected first runner-up at the Mr. Ramrod contest in Fort Lauderdale, was MAL 2017 second runner-up. These may have been the only selections on Capitol Hill this year that had folks cheering in agreement. Also competing were Mr. Colorado Springs 2004 Rick Teadrick currently from Oakton, Virginia, who also competed in November’s Mr. Maryland Leather Contest, Mr. Double L Leather 2016 Joe Wozniak from Gaithersburg, Maryland, and Johnathan Kitchen (AKA Johnny Boots) of Delaware.
On November 5th, the 27th Mr. Maryland Leather Contest was held at Grand Central Station in Baltimore. This annual contest produced by COMMAND, MC has been selecting Maryland’s representative to the International Mr. Leather (IML) Contest since 1991. The leather community has changed a lot since 1991, but some in the audience for this year’s contest are still talking about this year’s Mr. Maryland Leather titleholder. A yellow stained white jock? An entrance on all fours? A puppy tail? A flannel shirt and COMMAND, MC club vest replacing formal leather? The selection of 26-year-old Peter Dayton who goes by the name of Pup Orpheus as Mr. Maryland Leather 2017 has many tongues wagging.
